At the time of writing this, the latest version of whatsapp is 2.11.560.
Incase, you do not have that version, you may follow the below mention steps to update to latest version.
1. Create a Manual back up by opening WhatsApp > [Menu Button] > [Settings] > [Chat Settings] > [Backup Conversations]
2. Go to website (http://www.whatsapp.com/android) on your phone browser
3. Once downloaded, open the APK file. Installation will begin automatically.
4. After installation completes, reboot your phone.
To check your current version, just go to Settings > Help > About.
